Not My Old School Pinafore
I spent the better part of my early boarding school days, 3 years to be exact, wearing a pinafore dress. An uninspiring drab brown colored, knee length, A-line dress with a boring yellow blouse tucked into it. Even now, as I reflect on my old school uniform, I feel like I need a moment to recover from this walk down memory lane.
It’s like they were trying to subdue us with that uniform; oh but we were resilient. Short of ripping the top portion of the pinafore off, we found ways to constantly restyle it. We flipped the top part of the pinafore down and turned the A-line skirt into the most skin tight pencil skirt. It was almost impossible to walk in them; some of the petite girls had to be carried over puddles on the road because they literally couldn’t jump across. In my opinion those restyled dresses were certainly responsible for the knock knees I saw on some of the girls.
I’m not sure why they couldn’t have given us chic pinafore dresses like this gorgeous tweed number I’m wearing; unless they were afraid that, like Kelis’ milkshake, it would bring all the boys to our yard, LOL. But seriously this tweed pinafore dress is everything and then some. I love that it’s made of this Chanel inspired tweed instead of the typical jeans or corduroy that most pinafore dresses are made of. Aside from the obvious schoolgirl appeal, this dress is both sensible and chic, and it’s become one of my go-to dresses this fall.
How I Style My Pinafore
The styling possibilities for this dress are endless, it can be worn with a variety of tops and sweaters including my favorite white blousy or long sleeve lace tops. For an edgy street look I’d switch the purple pumps with my favorite pair of booties or OTK boots. I think a pinafore dress is an unexpected look that wins all the time. How do you style yours? I want to know. As always, thanks for following along on my fashion journey, please share this post and leave me your feedback. Until next time…

Lovely pinafore and its totally work appropriate. I usually do pinafores with knee to thigh high boots. I would try with pumps as you did here to see what it gives. Great look
Thanks Juliet pinafores and boots also work amazingly well together. I love that look.
